Who wouldn’t want to jump out of a plane right over the Swiss Alps!
The scenery is spectacular. And, the service is impeccable and reliable. Just the right combination for a skydive.
So, if you are looking to skydive while living or visiting Switzerland, what are the options available?
Let’s take a look at some amazing possibilities…
Interlaken Skydiving – The Center Of The Alps
Interlaken is one of the most popular tourist areas in Switzerland and for good reason. It is home to Grindelwald, and Lauterbrunnen (home of some crazy base jumping) and some of the most stunning mountains in the alps: Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau.
Now imagine seeing those with a bird’s eye view! That is why skydiving in Interlaken is so popular.
There are two main options, which you won’t find in all locations:
- skydiving from a plane
- skydiving from a helicopter
You can also choose to go from either Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen.
Skydive Lauterbrunnen is one great option, with accommodation pickup. They offer helicopter skydiving from either Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen.
Skydive Interlaken is the other big operator in the region. They offer both helicopter and airplane skydives, in case you want to choose!
Helicopter Skydiving In Zermatt – Home Of The Matterhorn
Zermatt is the home of the Matterhorn. One of Switzerland’s most iconic mountains. Some even claim it is the inspiration for the Toblerone chocolate’s triangular shape! Yes, it is that impressive.
Lucky for us, Zermatt is also home to some impressive helicopters which are also put into service to give you a skydiving opportunity if you are in the area.
Skydive Matterhorn offers you the opportunity to do a tandem jump from their helicopters at 5000m (16400ft).
All in all, you get about 10 minutes helicopter time (15 minutes for companions not jumping). And the fall itself, you get about 40 seconds freefall, with a 7-minute parachute glide back into Zermatt. Not bad!
So, if you are in the area and want to get a better view of some of Switzerland’s most impressive peaks, try skydiving in Zermatt.
Lucerne Skydiving – Tourist Mecca For A Reason
Not everyone will make it to Zermatt, but it is almost certain that you will pass through Lucerne on your tour of Switzerland. There is so much to do in Lucerne, including some stunning day trips. Including one from the air, while skydiving!
Paraclub Beromünster, in Neudorf approximately 30 minutes bus ride from Lucerne are ready and waiting to take you on a flight to the ultimate skydive.
It’s a 20-minute flight up, where you will get to see the alps all around you, including Lake Lucerne and the home mountain of Pilatus.
Once you reach 4000m, you do a tandem jump with your skydive instructor – giving you a 50-second freefall and then gliding back to base from 1500m onwards. The ride back will last 5-7 minutes.
Although not as convenient as some of the jumps from Zermatt or Interlaken, if you are only stopping in Lucerne, this is a great option.
If You Have The Choice
Of course, if you could, you would do them all, right? But skydiving is not cheap and sometimes you have to choose.
Zermatt is an impressive location and one of my favorites in Switzerland. You have glaciers, the Matterhorn and even Switzerland’s highest peak (Monta Rose) all in close proximity – making for an impressive flight.
And in Interlaken, it is quite similar. You get to see the iconic mountaineering spectacle of the Eiger (which has killed more climbers than you can imagine) as well as the stunning surroundings. So worth doing in either a plane or heli.
But in the end, it’s up to you! Just don’t miss the chance.
